Abstract

The available space for implantation is important factor to determine the number of fixtures in edentulous mandible and identifying the anatomical location of the mental foramen is significant. Emergency of the mental foramen and mental nerve restricts the extension of the room between right and left mental foramina which is safe edentulous area for implantation.
The distances between right and left mental foramina of 43 men and 57 women above 20 years whose mandible was developed favorably were "measured. The results were as follows.

1. The average distance between right and left mental foramina of adult dentulous men
was 55.07¡¾ 4.90mm, minimum 45.Omm and maximum 65.0mm.
2. The average distance between right and left mental foramina of adult dentulous women
was 54.87¡¾ 4.75mm, minimum 42.8mm and maximum 65.0mm.
3. The average distance between right and left mental foramina of adult dentulous men
and women was 54.96¡¾ 4.79mm, minimum 42.8mm and maximum 65.0mm.
